Teach Your Youth How to Read Their Bible

One of the most important tools you can give your teenage children is to teach them how to read and study their Bible. Here are some steps for you and your kids to learn to do this together.

JEN WILKIN | DEC 28, 2018

Parents contact me frequently to ask what devotionals or young adult Bible studies I would recommend they do with their teens. As our kids enter the teen years, our responsibility as their parents is to help them develop good habits of interacting with the Bible. Finding an approach that is age-appropriate and manageable is key. My encouragement is to simply read the Bible with your teen in a way that models and trains Bible literacy—no special teen resource required.

Your teen will be exposed to devotional content and topical studies at every turn, and they likely don’t need a resource that is targeted specifically at their demographic. What most are missing are basic tools to help them read and learn the Bible on their own. By guiding them in some basic study methods, you can position them to use devotional and topical material with far better discernment and far greater benefit, as those types of resources assume a first-hand knowledge of the Bible that many teens have not yet developed. Here is a simple approach that you can adapt to fit the age of your teen:

AGENDA: Grinding America Down (Full Movie) FREE to watch for a limited time!

This is a movie. You’ll need an hour and a half…but is a must see…to inform where we’re at. It’s about America…but really about the free world. Features prominently a Kiwi…who most of us have probably never heard of.  Interesting to see who all are talking on this film – New Zealander Trevor Loudon from NZBlogspot.com, Phyllis Schlafly, Brannon Howse, David Noebel (who spoke at our first World View Conference), Howard Phillips and others.
Geoff Botkin talked about this at the first World View Conference that we put on. He and Craig used to talk about this and the Frankfurt school a lot when he was in New Zealand. Please watch this video.

Ken Ham
Ken Ham is the president and founder of Answers in Genesis. A biblical apologist, Ken gives talks to tens of thousands of children and adults each year on such topics as the reliability of the Bible, how compromise over biblical authority has undermined society and even the church, witnessing more effectively, dinosaurs, “races,” etc. Ken co-founded AiG in 1994 with the purpose of upholding the authority of the Bible from the very first verse.

Ken is the author of many books on Genesis, including the eye-opening book Already Gone, co-authored by renowned researcher Britt Beemer on why so many young people have left the church, the best-selling The Lie: Evolution, and a number of children’s books (Dinosaurs of Eden, D is for Dinosaur, A is for Adam, etc.). Other recent co-authored books include One Race, One Blood and How Could a Loving God … ?, and he co-authored the provocative book Already Compromised about Christian colleges and how they treat the authority of the Bible.

Ken is heard daily on the radio feature Answers … with Ken Ham (broadcast on more than 500 stations) and is a frequent guest on national TV talk-show programs. Ken is also the founder of the award-winning Answers magazine, and he writes articles for AiG’s popular website www.AnswersInGenesis.org.

Ken’s bachelor’s degree in applied science (with an emphasis on environmental biology) was awarded by the Queensland Institute of Technology in Australia. He also holds a diploma of education from the University of Queensland (a graduate qualification necessary for Ken to begin his initial career as a science teacher in the public schools in Australia). In recognition of the contribution Ken has made to the church in the USA and internationally, Ken has been awarded four honorary doctorates.

Ken and his wife, Mally, reside in the Cincinnati area. They have five children and seven grandchildren.

Ideas Have Consequences

Ideas Have Consequences

Public schools must deal with random school shootings as a result of their humanist ideologies and the breakdown of family relationships.  What must Christians do when the humanist education system imposes an anti-Christian, pro-homosexual agenda on homeschools?  The Alberta government is considering a law that would require homeschools to teach that homosexuality is not a sin.  Kevin Swanson interviews Paul Faris from Canada’s Home School Legal Defense Association on this development. About The Child:
The future of our children is the future of humanity. But what happens if our children’s future is taken into the hands of the government?

Watchman Cinema’s 85-minute documentary The Child: America’s Battle for the Next Generation unveils a pervasive attack against the deep bond between parent and child in American law and culture. Parents have traditionally been recognized as having the insight and responsibility to make the right decisions for their children. But a new wave is gathering force among lawmakers, judges, government authorities, and international activists: the belief that parents should not have the final say in the upbringing and education of their children.

What does this mean for America? It means that parents’ rights and responsibilities on behalf of their children are gradually being taken over by the government. It means that parents have less and less freedom to opt their children out of sexual education in public school, make medical decisions for their children, or teach their children their most deeply held religious beliefs. It means that parents are being prosecuted and even arrested when their choices conflict with what government authorities think is in the best interests of their children. It also means that children can no longer trust that their interests and security will be represented by their parents, who know and love them.

But a growing group of parents, legislators, legal experts, doctors, and child and family advocates are fighting back. To defend the child-parent bond, they are lobbying for something unprecedented: a Parental Rights Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. This diverse coalition of concerned citizens crosses party and religious lines.

The Child presents a sweeping and sobering picture of the threats against the child-parent bond in America, along with what we can do to protect this fundamental relationship. Weaving together in-depth interviews of judges, lawyers, pediatricians, and legislators with firsthand accounts from families who have been devastatingly impacted by the anti-parent trend, this important film makes the case for a Parental Rights Amendment. In the words of parenting expert John Rosemond, this is “a cause that protects the liberty of every American.”
