The Adventure of Missionary Heroism

The Adventure of Missionary Heroism

$40.00
Authors: John C. Lambert and Joshua M. Wean
Format: Hardback (374 pages)

I think there are also a lot of parents who want to expose their children to the stories of missionaries. We’ve come across a book called The Adventures of Missionary Heroism. This is a hardback story book that includes a number of compelling accounts. These are great stories of men and women who risked it all to bring the good news of Jesus to other people. This would be a great book for parents to read aloud to younger children or you could assign this book to your older readers and have them read a chapter or a different story each week. This would be great summer time reading or great for family worship. —Bob Lepine of FamilyLife Today

Among the annals of missionary service around the world are countless true stories of intrepid men and women who are little known today but who endured innumerable dangers, toils, tragedies, and triumphs for the sake of the Gospel. These are not make-believe narratives or fictional tales, but stirring adventures of godly men and women braving wild animals, shipwrecks, and savage natives — all for the sake of sharing the good news of Jesus Christ. Welcome to The Adventure of Missionary Heroism! Originally published in 1907, this book will become a favorite family read-aloud as you discover thrilling accounts of missionaries facing hardship with courage and unwavering faith in their Lord while they explore new lands and share the Gospel with fierce pagans.

Travel with Dr. Chamberlain on his medical journeys through the jungles of India as he outwits tigers and serpents, or live with Stephen and Mary Riggs as they labor among the Sioux Indians. Follow Alexander Mackay through his extraordinary efforts in darkest Africa, or set sail with the intrepid James “Tamate” Chalmers and stand bravely by his side among the headhunters of New Guinea. May the stories of those who have gone before and been found worthy of eternal glory inspire Christians, young and old alike, to give their all for Christ. Certain to fascinate old and young readers alike!

God’s Word speaks volumes to the relationship between fathers and daughters. One of his most sacred duties is her protection and preservation from childhood to virtuous womanhood. In these powerful messages given at the 2008 Father and Daughter Discipleship Retreat, speakers Doug Phillips, Scott Brown, Geoffrey Botkin and daughters Anna Sophia and Elizabeth Botkin illustrate elements of this important priority as they explore such topics as how to build the father-daughter bond, true feminine beauty, the Proverbs 31 woman, how to transition from beautiful girlhood to noble womanhood, and how to prepare daughters for marriage. Other highlights include a look at examples of godly, dominion-oriented womanhood from the young pioneer girls of the nineteenth century, as well as the special importance of the thirteenth year in a girl’s life.

For the first time in America’s history, young ladies can expect to encounter a large gap between their years of basic training and the time when they marry… if they marry. Now Christian girls all throughout our country are seriously asking: What’s a girl to do with her single years?

Two years after the publication of their best-selling book, So Much More, Anna Sofia and Elizabeth Botkin are taking the message of visionary daughterhood to a new level and into a new medium. This highly-controversial documentary will take viewers into the homes of several young women who have dared to defy today’s anti-family culture in pursuit of a biblical approach to daughterhood, using their in-between years to pioneer a new culture of strength and dignity, and to rebuild Western Civilization, starting with the culture of the home.

“After twenty-five years of speaking to the home-school movement, I have never seen a more effective tool to reach the hearts of fathers who love their daughters but don’t know how to lead them, than this powerful DVD by Anna Sofia and Elizabeth Botkin.”
—Dr. Marshall Foster

As the home goes, so often goes the church, and society at large. Learn along with Anna Sofia and Elizabeth, the fulfilling, exciting life of impact and accomplishment that young women can and should have. Discover the power of the family unit and a picture of the biblical home as the center of dominion work — a vibrant center of education, ministry, evangelism, culture, entrepreneurialism, and hospitality.

Spiritual disciplines for the Christian life

We used to sell this book until we could not get it for the incredibly cheap price that we were able to offer it for. This is still a good price.

After the Bible our daughter, Genevieve, said that this book impacted her life more than any other. We all try to read it through every year. I can’t recommend this book highly enough.

Spiritual disciplines for the Christian life

Donald S. Whitney

Description… It’s not uncommon for an accomplished musician to be able to sit down in front of a new piece of music and play it through without a hitch. To make it seem easy, as if it required no effort. Yet the “freedom” to play with such skill comes only after years of disciplined practice.

In the same way, the freedom to grow in godliness—to naturally express Christ’s character through your own personality—is in large part dependent on a deliberate cultivation of the spiritual disciplines.

Far from being legalistic, restrictive, or binding, as they are often perceived, the spiritual disciplines are actually the means to unparalleled spiritual liberty. So if you’d like to embark on a lifelong quest for godliness, Spiritual Disciplines for the Christian Life will help you on your way. Based on the rich heritage left us by the early church fathers, the Puritan writers, and Jesus Christ Himself, Whitney takes you through a carefully selected array of disciplines that includes Scripture reading, prayer, worship, Scripture meditation, evangelism, serving, stewardship, Scripture application, fasting, silence and solitude, journaling, and learning.

By illustrating why the disciplines are important, showing how each one will help you grow in godliness, and offering practical suggestions for cultivating them on a long-term basis, Spiritual Disciplines for the Christian Life will provide you with a refreshing opportunity to embrace life’s greatest pursuit—the pursuit of holiness—through a lifelong delight in the disciplines. $27.00

Leafafter 30 years of ministry
a “Little Bear” pause….

Dear Pilgrims, Patriots and Friends,

I shudder to think that reflecting on 30 years of ministry should be all about what “Little Bear” or Mantle Ministries has accomplished; God forbid! I believe that the Lord used me despite myself, because He was merciful towards me and knows my heart is inclined only towards Him, and that He dished out a portion of something He would allow me to do – however small. Rather, it is all about what Jesus has done that we might have eternal life with Him in glory. Resurrection Sunday indeed reminds us of Christ’s finished work on the cross and our utter dependence on Him.

All of us are fitly made, uniquely made according to Psalm 139…. The past 30 years have really been a testimony of my inability – of what I can’t do – not what I can do. It’s a testimony of how wonderful God is to use a “retarded gopher skinner” like myself, and prepare a work for me to bring Him glory. I didn’t learn to read, write, or spell until I was twelve, but I could sure skin gophers well. God took what I could do, not what I couldn’t do. He created and fashioned a ministry around these inabilities and abilities with its costuming, drama, and my love of history — His-story.

Nowadays, wherever I travel in ministry… parents often share with me – at times in desperation – that they have a son or a daughter that doesn’t fit everybody else’s idea of “normal.” They feel like misfits or that they’ve done something terribly wrong. Maybe they don’t have proper reading skills or good study habits. Although I didn’t learn to read until I was about twelve, I finally recognized that the Lord gave me a fascination with history and a gift to be able to share that interest. Back then I had no idea that the Lord was preparing me for ministry while I was enjoying all those “out-of-the-ordinary” things I did know how to do. That’s how I am able to encourage parents that God has a plan and purpose for their children as well, with unique gifts and callings that might not fit into the traditional classroom setting. They can also learn other skills God can use for His glory and for ministry to others in the future. “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them” (Ephesians 2:10).

In celebrating the privilege of these 30 years of ministry… we can’t think of a better time to thank each one of our friends of Mantle Ministries who have walked alongside us in supportive prayer and in co-laboring for Christ’s kingdom. May He bless us all with “fruit that remains” (John 15:16) to His glory!
