UN safety in Education

Please see the link below with the link to the UN safety as an element of the right to education and a precondition for its full realisation. I put in two submissions to the UN which are in the link.

From an Internatioal leader:

“The United Nations Special Rapporteur on the right to education recently published this statement: “Curriculum, pedagogy and assessment together define the substantive content of the right to education. While the specific choices of what to teach and how to teach it, fall within the sovereign responsibility of States, these choices must align with the internationally recognized aims of education.”

“I wanted to share it with you so you can have a better understanding of their understanding of education. Might I draw specific attention to their claim that what to teach and how to teach it “fall within the sovereign responsibility of States” which seemingly precludes the God-given right of parents to choose what to teach and how to teach their children.

“From what I was reading, and again this just came from a brief communication piece via email, they posit that “these choices must align with the internationally recognized aims of education.” So while they previously say such will be coming from each country, they then clarify that what comes from each country must be in alignment on an international level.

“In a context shaped by rapid digital transformation, the spread of armed conflicts, the triple planetary crisis, growing inequalities and social fragmentation, the report will explore how education systems can equip learners with the skills, values and resilience needed to address and navigate these evolving realities.

“Note the claim that curriculum (what to teach and how to teach it) is “the sovereign responsibility of the States[.]”

“This again came in the form of a written email from the Special Rapporteur at the UN.”
