Staveley Life Learners Family Camp

Welcome to our co-created camps at Staveley, Mid Canterbury, South Island, Aotearoa/NZ.
These camps were born from a Open Space hui* that took place in Christchurch in 2012 where families from Oamaru to Christchurch met together to discuss how to build and create ongoing connections between our families.  From here an idea of a day camp was discussed – something that was more than just a mornings playgroup, given that people would be travelling quite a distance for it.  From here the first “day camp” took place in Peel Forest and Staveley, December 2012. It was decided that it would become an overnight gathering and was such a huge success that the ‘closing circle**’ calls for it to “become a whole weekend camp and four times a year”, were heeded.
Now families meet four times a year, rain, snow (and we had some at the winter camp!!) or shine at Staveley campsite Friday  to Sunday afternoon. It is a co-created space where each person brings what they can offer in skills and shares these with those who are there.  It is a wonderful environment of support, connection, ideas, learning, debate and laughter.  Everyone comes from different walks of life but share a common goal of loving and supporting our children learning at home in a natural/lifelearning/unschooling philosophy.  It is an open space for anyone who wishes to be involved, from those just interested in Home Educating to those who have been doing it for years. We welcome you along and look forward to getting to know you and your family. To learn more click on:

*Open Space – https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open-space_technology
**Closing circles are the meeting at the end of the camp where families gather in a circle to share their experiences of camp and make suggestions of new ideas etc.

Kai Iwi Lakes Campout, Home Educators and Friends from 22 January 2014

Please note the date change this is now from 18 February 2014

From the organisers:

We would like to invite Home Educators and friends to join us for a summer camp at Kai Iwi Lakes from 22 January 2014 (stay as long as you like).

Families will need to supply all camping and cooking needs as the only facilities are clean public toilets and fresh cold water. We can meet together for meals, games etc if you wish. Also bring bikes, sports gears, board games, water gear, boats and life jackets (younger children may need to swim in them and for water sports).

We’ll be camping at the Promenade Point Camp grounds at the far end of the camp, which is smaller and has trees and good swimming. Camp sites aren’t marked out so families can choose their spot.

If you have family or friends keen to come please add them to this page….

2014 Family Getaway brochure

A like-minded … family-centred …

budget-conscious … fun-filled…

weekend getaway!

14 – 16 FEB 2014

What’s happening …

The annual Christian Homeschoolers Family Summer Getaway is for Christian homeschooling families to connect with other families for mutual encouragement and friendship. It aims to be …

Like-minded

There’s nothing more encouraging than knowing we are not alone in this awesome task of discipling our children at home. Meeting with others who are going through the same triumphs and struggles can lift a tired soul! And how important it is, for our children to have like minded friends.

Family-centred

This is a getaway for the whole family. Enjoy a weekend away or extend your time at the campsite and have a family holiday as well. This is not a camp/conference in the traditional sense, it is families relaxing together.

Budget-conscious

Raising a family on a single income is no easy task but God is faithful. So being mindful of this, we have chosen to go to a conventional campsite. There are limited cabins available also. We will let you organise your own family’s food which is much cheaper than paying someone else to cook it and you can meet your own budget requirements.

Fun-filled

We have a programme of fun games and activities for the young and not so young, and of course, we are camped right on the shores of beautiful Lake Taupo for swimming, boating, etc! We have a hall on site for fellowship, Sunday morning devotional, or in case it rains.

Friday

7:00 pm Meet in function room, introduce each family
8:00 pm Supper

Saturday

9:30 am Games for all who choose to participate
10:30 am Morning Tea
11:15 pm More Games
12:30 pm Lunch Break
1:30 pm Free time for swimming, fellowshipping, sightseeing, etc
6:00 pm Shared BBQ dinner by function room
7:00 pm Free time/board games in function room/swimmin

Sunday (Please pack up your cabin by 10am)

10.00 am Devotional Hour – some singing and some sharing from God’s Word
11:30 am Final pack up of tents etc and last swim at lake

Any questions?
