Journée Internationale Pour la Liberté de l’Instruction (JIPLI)

Dear Home-educating Friends and Supporters of Freedom in Education,

The 3rd International Freedom in Education Day  (IFED) will take place on the 15 September in Europe. Activities will focus on  Tuesday, September 15th, 2009. Other events will happen throughout that week in many countries all over the world.

The aim of IFED is to promote the importance of free choice concerning the type of education that your family chooses and to spread information about alternative ways of learning that are available or are being fought for in various countries.

Free choice in education is important in all learning situations and we welcome and invite alternative movements in education, learning organisations, schools and, of course, parents and children, to take part in this global event.

On this website we will publish all the information and/or links to events on or around the 15th of September (conferences, gatherings, education fairs, etc.), where ever they may take place and in any language. So please send us your projected events.

A few examples of past events are local picnics and information tables, discussions in philosophy cafés in France, a demonstration on freedom in education in Sweden, a home education conference in Scotland, a home educators’ outing in California, and an evening conference and discussion on freedom in education in Austria .

IFED was originally initiated by home educators, which itself includes a wide variety of choices in education and methods. This choice is often legally possible but not well-known in most countries, and constantly under attack by those who think that the state alone should decide where and what children should learn. At the moment the governments of Sweden and England are planning to impose severe restrictions on
home education.

We will also post links to other websites and announcements in other countries. If your native language is not English, French, German, Italian or Spanish, please send us a short English description and in your native language, of your event that you would like placed on the website.

So please tell us about your planned events, no matter how small it may seem! We’ll be great in numbers!

Contact JIPLI

Please do not hesitate to spread the information about the IFED as far as possible. We want to reach all corners of the earth!

Sincerely yours,

P. S.:
Please tell us how you call “Freedom in Education Day” in your native language! We will add on our website all the translations that you send to us.

WE NEED A WEB DEVELOPER URGENTLY FOR A ONE-OFF JOB RELATED TO THE ANTI-SMACKING LAW.

WE NEED A WEB DEVELOPER URGENTLY FOR A ONE-OFF JOB RELATED TO THE ANTI-SMACKING LAW.

I wonder if any home schoolers or their acquaintances can help.

I am after someone urgently to develop a basic web site which will make it really simple for people to send effective messages to relevant parties quickly without spending hours thinking and crafting emails, finding out how to contact people, etc, etc.

We are happy to pay for the service, and need someone flexible who will work hard and fast to get the product delivered to spec.  Their location can be anywhere, we will be working closely by email and phone, but I am only available evenings and weekends so that’s when the main communication will need to happen.

It may suit a home-schooling web development whiz who wants a challenge, but anyone is good.

Looking forward to hearing from anyone interested in discussing this project!

Kind Regards,
Rex Healy

Coming Events

Greetings, here are some of the home education events in New Zealand over the next few months.

There are some great camps and workshops/conferences coming up. We seem to have a feast this year.

The five camps look like a lot of fun with two in the South Island and three in the North Island – two unschoolers camps, one Christian camp, one West Coasters camp and a Girls camp.

I have a family reunion over Easter in Wanaka. So I am planning (a bit late) a tour around the South Island. If you would like me to speak in your area please get back to me soon and I will see if I can fit it into our schedule. At this stage some events are already confirmed and others hopefully will be confirmed over the next few days. So please keep checking this link for updates.

In amongst all this activity please make sure you write/phone/visit  the MPs about this beneficiary Bill – we don’t want to see ECE and Government Health checks becoming compulsory for the beneficiaries and perhaps later for all of us. None of us know when we could become jobless, ill or widowed and could be relying on the benefit. So please write, phone and/or visit the MPs for those on a benefit now. As of July those on a benefit will have to send their 3 – 5 year olds to an ECE for 15 hours a week and begin working 15 hours a week once their youngest turns 5 and 30 hours a week once their youngest turns 14. Please support the beneficiaries and write/ring or visit an MP to have this taken out of the Social Security Bill. It is hard enough home educating on your own without having all this going on too.

Then don’t forget the HEART retreats where Mums get pampered.
