Email list (not completely up-to-date but useful if you don’t have a lot of time to send emails): List Of Members Of Parliament September 2012

Please remember that at any time you could become dependant on a benefit. You do not know when your husband might die of illness or an accident. You don’t know when you might have illness or accident in the family so need to go onto a sickness benefit. With the way the econony is going how secure is your job? Could you end up on the unemployment benefit? Any of these could effect you. Please help fight this bill for the beneficiaries.
.
The main concerns are:
1. That 3 and 4 year olds must be enrolled in a recognised early childhood education programme
2. to take all reasonable steps to ensure that every dependent child under the age of 5 years is up to date with core checks
3. The work obligations
.
More information:

I have not had time to read this yet. Because of the urgency I want to get this to you as soon as I found out about this.  I will try to condense this once I have read it.

This bill has been presented to the House and is now available electronically.

http://www.parliament.nz/NR/rdonlyres/BA3A8C04-EA05-454D-8875-EA715B021E0B/266329/DBSCH_SCR_5776_SocialSecurityBenefitCategoriesandW.pdf

The advice is now on the website. The evidence is also on the website, except for four items all with the word “Anonymous” in the keyword were added as evidence when the bill was reported to the House (13 March 2013).

Evidence and advice are found in different areas.

Here is the link to the evidence page. http://www.parliament.nz/en-NZ/PB/SC/Documents/Evidence/

Here is the ink the advice page. http://www.parliament.nz/en-NZ/PB/SC/Documents/Advice/Default.htm

For both a person needs to fill in the boxes. I suggest this is done as follows…

Select Committee: Social Services Committee

Parliament: 50

Keyword: Social (or anonymous if looking for the new evidence referred to above) Document type: Bill – SC advice

MPs to target

Vote at the first reading
Ayes 69 NZ National 59; NZ First 8; ACT NZ 1; United Future 1.
Noes 50 NZ Labour 34; Green Party 13; Maori Party 2; Mana 1.
We need to especially target these MPs who voted for the Bill at the 1st reading
* NZ First 8; ACT New Zealand 1; United Future 1, (Independent 1 new)
* Please also write to National MPs asking them to abstain from voting.

Please call all your friends into action to ask for this Bill to be voted down if the Social Obligations and Sanctions are left in the Bill at the second reading. We need to also ask National MPs to not vote since they are being whipped into voting for the Bill.

Second reading – sometime between the “third sitting day after 13 March 2013 and 1 May 2013

A bill can be read a second time no sooner than the third sitting day after the select committee reports to the House. Members can then debate the main principles of a bill, and any changes recommended by the select committee in its report.

Changes not supported by every committee member are subject to a single vote at the end of the second reading debate.

Changes that are supported by every committee member are automatically included in the bill if the second reading is agreed.

If the vote is lost, that is the end of the bill. If the second reading is agreed, the bill is ready for debate by a committee of the whole House.

Bills are rarely rejected after this stage.

For more information http://www.parliament.nz/en-NZ/AboutParl/HowPWorks/Laws/7/5/6/75639197bdff4a15b57eaaade358509e.htm

So we need to be working hard now before the 2nd reading.
