Christopher Lloyd on the Wright Stuff

The Wright Stuff

Home Educators, so often pictured by the press as crazies who have slipped off the system, are vigorously defended by world history author Christopher Lloyd in this 11 minute interview for Channel’s 5’s Matthew Wright.

Employers Look for Right Attitude

This Wellington Dominion survey is probably even more relevant today than it was back in 1995.

Almost half of all unemployed people hold educational qualifications but in a recent survey employers ranked qualifications at the bottom of a list of 20 desirable attributes for selecting potential employees, the Employment Service says.

In a survey of 500 randomly selected employers, qualifications came last in traits employers considered most desirable for employees. Top of the list was:

  1. attitude followed by:
  2. honesty
  3. tidy appearance
  4. amiability
  5. enthusiasm
  6. reliability
  7. communication skills
  8. motivation
  9. punctuality
  10. experience
  11. flexibility
  12. fast learning
  13. efficiency
  14. commitment
  15. knowledge
  16. education
  17. interest
  18. personality
  19. stability
  20. willingness to work
  21. skills AND
  22. qualifications

Kai Iwi Lakes Campout, Home Educators and Friends now from 18 February 2014

Please note the date change – this is now from 18 February

From the organisers:

We would like to invite Home Educators and friends to join us for a summer camp at Kai Iwi Lakes from 18 February 2014 (stay as long as you like).

Families will need to supply all camping and cooking needs as the only facilities are clean public toilets and fresh cold water. We can meet together for meals, games etc if you wish. Also bring bikes, sports gears, board games, water gear, boats and life jackets (younger children may need to swim in them and for water sports).

We’ll be camping at the Promenade Point Camp grounds at the far end of the camp, which is smaller and has trees and good swimming. Camp sites aren’t marked out so families can choose their spot.

If you have family or friends keen to come please add them to this page….

Check out this link for fees and and more info…..

Letter from Paula Bennett concerning beneficaries and home education

Update 5/10/12: Make a submission: Reject compulsory Early Education for 3 year olds

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Here is the letter from Paula Bennett — all bad news for home educators on a benefit.
Slevel5,5L-12092013240(2)
Reading this response I realise that this is a process we are going through at the moment – The Social Security (Benefit Categories and Work Focus) Amendment Bill.
So we can now make submissions to this Bill leading up to the 1st reading of the Bill – more on this when I find out exactly what this involves and the timeline of events for this bill.
OK this bill was first introduced 17 September 2012 http://www.legislation.govt.nz/bill/government/2012/0067/latest/DLM4542304.html
