7 April 2008 Family Integrity #365 — One family’s ordeal…

Dear Friends,

This is a terrible story.

The outrageous antics of the Police and the social welfare agents are bad enough. But they are not the only villains in this story.

Have a read:

The parenting practices of this apparently very typical family are also to blame. The practices, I believe, are quite common and typical. But let’s look a wee bit closer.

The children attended school. Simply being separated for at least 6 hours a day, 5 days a week will soon make the children strangers to their parents. In addition, we all know that children pick up all kinds of lousy messages and attitudes at school. Many teachers convey the anti-parent message that your parents are not allowed to force you to do anything, to discipline you or correct you. This is totally subversive of parental authority. So the first question: why do parents allow their children to attend these institutions where they are subject to such subversive propaganda? Probably the simplest answer is that the parents send their children to school in good faith and have no idea whatsoever as to what is going on. The typical answer to, “What did you do and learn at school today, Johnny?” is “Nothing.” Application: get your children out of such institutions. Ideally teach them at home or find a private school you can thoroughly trust.

The children were allowed computers in their rooms as well as other games and entertainment technology. That means a fair bit of what they did was unsupervised. Children need guidance in these areas. If the computers were connected to Internet, this was indeed a very foolish thing to do, leaving the children to surf the Internet unsupervised. Application: never let children have unsupervised time on internet and never let them have their own computer or TV in their rooms. This is just the same as leaving stacks of pornography magazines, books and films in their rooms. How can one be surprised if they then come out with vile speech and disobedient and disrespectful attitudes?

The children were allowed to develop friendships, spend lots of time and even stay over night at the homes of people the parents did not approve of. Again, this is incredibly foolish. Why do parents do this? Again, they do so in good faith, do not want to appear snooty or arrogant, want to apprear friendly and non-discriminatory toward neighbours, for after all, they are neighbours. (Actually we’re not sure if they were neighbours or not.) But the strongest influence that caused the parents to have such a hands-off approach to the shepherding of their children was that such an approach is what society today demands. Application: tell society and its demands to jump in a lake: your children are your responsibility and you must raise them according to what you believe is right. If you do not approve of certain people, do not let your children associate with them. This is impossible if they attend school, of course, so again home education is nearly essential. We must say more: if you disapprove of this or that, you must be clear about this to your children and explain why. More than that, you must approve, and even demand, behaviour and standards that you want to see in your family. Schooling institutions no longer propagate the higher standards of our Traditional Western Christian Civilization, but today they socialise everyone to a politicised list of so-called commonly held set of values. That is the formal curriculum. The hidden curriculum (what goes on behind the bike sheds and at recess and behind teacher’s back) socialises all to the lowest common denominator…and this is getting lower all the time.

The children were allowed to get away with saying “F…off, you cow,” to their mother who would give a few warnings about such language. Such language should have been rooted out years ago. Again, it is nearly impossible to do this if the children are at school, but at the very least they could have learned to never use that language at home, but only at school, as I did as a kid. But to tolerate them saying such things to their own mother is unbelievable. But then, the father did say the same thing to a social worker. Sure he was under duress, but it was a terrible example. The application is: don’t use language or act in ways you don’t want to see replicated in your own children. They need to know exactly where the boundaries are and that you will be swift and sure about enforcing the boundaries. Swift and sure about enforcement. Here we are up against it as the re-write of Section 59 categorically forbids parents from correcting or disciplining their children. It would seem the law we have is designed to prevent parents from doing their duty toward their children and to give children license to be as disrespectful and disobedience as they like.

So, the police and social welfare agents in this story were abominable, but they were following the trends and policies of their superiors. This is bad, and NZer will be suffering such interventions more and more. But none of this would have happened if the parents had closer relations with their children, if the family had been operating as a unit instead of as a collection of individuals living, most of the time, under the same roof. The parents and children were clearly NOT on the same page. Application: train your chldren to recognise that the agents of the state are sadly no longer to be trusted, but that they will divide, conquer and destoy your family, your reputations, your future employment prospects and even your ability to travel. So children must stick close to parents and stick up for them and never, never divulge to others outside your four walls what goes on inside your four walls. Your family’s private family life is no business of anyone else. If authorities come around and start getting nosey, you must all be agreed that “Silence is golden.” Simply say nothing — NOTHING — to any of these agents.

As this story dramatically illustrates, the state agents (schooling institutions, police, social workers) used the tactics of divide and conquer plus their privileged position of using force, to damage this family. Don’t let it happen to you.

They’re teaching falsehood to our kids

They’re teaching falsehood to our kids

A high school textbook used in government schools in Australia is scientifically wrong on the evidences it presents for evolution, woefully out-of-date, misleading, uninformed and erroneous. Are your children being affected by similar textbooks in New Zealand?

Reclaim your children

Watch out parents; they’re after your children again, this time in California, but it could spread nationally.

According to the judge in this case: “… parents don’t have a constitutional right to homeschool their children.”

Remember his name: Justice H. Walter Croskey. As he spoke of the 3-0 ruling issued Feb. 28, he added that failure to comply means that parents can be criminally prosecuted.

He’s talking about parents teaching their own children, in their own homes!

Then the judge helpfully explained the primary purpose of the education system: “… to train school children in good citizenship, patriotism and loyalty to the state and the nation as a means of protecting the public welfare.”

This statement, from an earlier, similar ruling, emphasizes “loyalty to the state” but omits loyalty to family and the welfare of the family as a basic right of citizens.

If you ever needed more proof that government and the courts are at odds with individual freedoms, go no further than this.

It’s no surprise the teachers union loves the ruling: It means full employment for teachers, more dues paid and more money for colleges teaching credentialing courses.

It also means pulling homeschooled children back into the system and recouping the millions of dollars of average daily attendance money the schools get from the state – which, of course, comes first from taxpayers.

Big Brother, anyone?

The decision by the 2nd District Court of Appeal in Los Angeles puts it on the line: Every single child in the state, ages 6-18, must be taught by a credentialed teacher.

Each child must attend school full time, public or private, or be caught by a tutor. The caveat is that each teacher must have a state-issued credential for the grade level of the student.

This means there can be no homeschooling by parents, or even people knowledgeable in a field of study, if they don’t have that state license.

On that basis, Albert Einstein couldn’t teach math. Leonardo Da Vinci couldn’t teach art. William Shakespeare couldn’t teach literature. George Washington couldn’t teach about the Revolutionary War and the founding of our country. Martin Luther King, Jr. couldn’t teach about the civil rights movement.

You get the picture.

California says to be credentialed you must have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent, complete a credentialing post-grad course, do student teaching, pass the reading, writing and math state tests and complete courses on the U.S. Constitution, computer skills, reading and language.

Silly me. I always assumed that anyone with a legitimate bachelor’s degree would know how to read, do basic math and write. Actually, I thought high school graduates could do that. Apparently not, since California requires extra and separate courses on those skills for would-be teachers.

So much for our education system, which is why so many parents avoid public schools for their children.

It’s estimated there are upwards of 166,000 homeschooled children in California. Under this court decision, all of them would be considered truant.

Their parents would be subject to prosecution, found guilty of an infraction, fined, ordered to community service and civil penalties, including parental counseling.

If “educational neglect” is found, the children could be removed from the home.

This ruling would end homeschooling in California and make it the only state in the union to deprive parents, under court order, from their fundamental human right to teach their own children.

This case came about because of a child welfare investigation in Los Angeles County. Mary and Philip Long were homeschooling their eight children. Mrs. Long is the teacher, but she’s not credentialed. The children were also enrolled in the Sunland Christian School as part of an independent study program.

Apparently, one of the children complained to someone about “mistreatment.” As part of the investigation, a juvenile court judge found the children were being “poorly educated” (because of homeschooling) but made no changes.

However, lawyers appointed for the children after child advocates got involved pursued the issue. The appeals court then ordered the children to state schools, not permitting them to continue with Sunland school because it (Sunland) “was willing to participate in the deprivation of the children’s right to a legal education.”

Whew!

Brad Dacus, president of the Pacific Justice Institute, says there will be an appeal to the state Supreme Court, but at this point, the ruling stands.

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger is furious, saying if the ruling isn’t overturned in the courts, elected officials will protect parents’ rights.

We’ll see. Teachers’ unions are the most powerful lobbyists in the state.

Living in this country today is like being stranded in the middle of a hail storm. You get hit with chunks of ice coming at you from every direction, and there’s nothing you can do about it. It hurts. It’s damaging. There’s no end in sight, and often there’s nothing that you can do about it.

It seems everything is spinning out of control. The government on every level, from local to national; the judiciary on every level; the bureaucracy in every facet of life, schools, businesses, medicine, social organizations and yes, sometimes even churches: All have spread their tentacles into what used to be our personal lives and taken control to one degree or another.

Sometimes it’s major, sometimes minor, but it adds up to loss of privacy and loss of control of our lives, families, children, homes, property, jobs, medical care, social activities and what ever else they can infiltrate.

Despite the efforts of many, we are still the “home of the brave,” but we’re losing out on being “the home of the free.”

This is the real battle on the home front. It’s a battle we must win. The alternative is totalitarianism, and it’s closer than we realize.

Demographic winter

Dear Friends,

Here is a link to a very significant, 7-page newsletter.

http://www.worldcongress.org/WCF/wcf.nl/wcf.nl.0803.0203.pdf

It is from the World Congress of Families (WCF). It is a truly International and ecumenical organisation with members and connections within national governments world wide! One of the articles, “WCF Responds to Attack in The Nation” gives you a quick overview of who WCF is. I’ve been following what they do for a couple of years now, and I am both encouraged and impressed.

They have just released a DVD with the most amazing and honestly, unbelievable, message: that demographic winter (birth rates below replacement levels) is NOT just a malady of rich western nations, but is a global phenomenon! You know, we hear how Muslims are flooding into Europe, having six children each, and simply taking over since average European families only have 1.5 children each, not even replacing themselves. Well, apparently the facts show that second generation Muslims, growing up in the west, are not having six children each. In fact, not even first generation Muslims are having six children each.

I am encouraged because home schooling families tend to have a lot more than 2.1 children each (the number needed for bare replacement). We have 8 children. There are several home schooling families at our church who have 5 and 6 each; one has 7 and another has 9. And none of these families is out of child-bearing years yet, not by a long shot!

Here is part of the vision for fulfilling the Great Commission of Matthew 28: have large families and disciple them thoroughly as soldiers of the Cross of Christ and to also have large families who will be discipled in the same way. What with our unbelieving NZ culture killing off its progeny via abortion and killing off themselves via homosexual and other immoral lifestyles, give us only a mere two or three generations and we’ll have them!

On page 7 of the newsletter is a link to the DVD where you can view a trailer of it. To me it was one of those monumental paradigm-shattering experiences when, despite how hard the agenda-driven media tries to keep us in the dark, the truth finally shines forth. The link to the DVD trailer itself is here:
