Solid Impact with Ultrafast Fibre CEO Maxine Elliott — at Bongard Centre Tauranga.
Four homeschoolers from Katikati, Saul Boyd, Amber Boyd, Steven Bruining and Quentin Quaadgras spent last weekend at the BOP polytechnic competing against high schools from around the Bay of Plenty in a mashup competition. If you have no idea what a mashup is, don’t worry, you are not the only one! Basically they had a scenario to choose and come up with a business and marketing plan and create a computer or phone application. They worked on a website called “study in the Bay” with information for secondary school students about the BOP polytechnic and their degree courses in conjunction with Waikato university.
They won the “best designed mashup” ($500 prize money) as well as the “best overall mashup” which was a great achievement! The CEO from Ultrafast Fibre, the naming sponsor for this competition, flew out from Wellington yesterday to be on the judging panel. She was hugely impressed with our children and was blown away when she found out they are homeschoolers!
