Survey on Homeschooling for M. A. Dissertation

Note from Sarah Hickox of the University of London

I was homeschooled in the USA through 12th grade. I am now a Masters
student at Goldsmiths: University of London. I am studying Drama
and beginning research for my dissertation on the effects of using drama
as a learning tool in homeschooling. I have put together a survey
regarding different ways in which homeschooling families might use drama
(learning through roleplay, community theatre, etc.) I need to gather
respondents quickly. Is it possible for you to share this information with
your homeschooling group or association?

Dissertation on Drama & Homeschooling

Past and present homeschooling families please take the time to
participate in research conducted by Mississippi native and current
University of London student by filling out this online survey. The
research involves the ways that drama can used by homeschooling families
(including learning through roleplay, community theatre, etc.). Even if
you have not participated in theatre this is still valuable information
for the research. **You do not have to be currently homeschooling to take
the survey.**

Please complete this survey at your earliest convenience.

Feel free to share the link with your homeschooling network.

Thank you,

Saturday School of Music

http://www.saturdaymusic.org.nz/

Saturday Music Palmerston North

Saturday Music aims to give children a musical foundation. It does this by offering affordable music lessons to childen aged from 4 to 12 years. Pupils are taught in small groups by talented music teachers.

Tuition for children aged 7 and up is offered in the following instruments:

Violin
Cello
Recorder
Flute
Fife
Guitar
Keyboard
Drums
Clarinet
Saxophone
Trumpet
Cornet
Trombone

For younger children, aged from 4 to 6, we offer a Music Basics course.

These fun, interactive classes provide a thorough grounding in the fundamental skills of music making, before children start more formal tuition on their chosen instrument.

Saturday Music provides a low cost, affordable option for music lessons, as the classes are subsidised by the Ministry of Education.

An instrument hire service is also available. The following instruments are available for hire: flutes, clarinets, violins (all sizes), cellos (all sizes), cornets, trumpets and trombones. Saxophones may be available. Junior flutes are provided for students enrolled in the combined Recorder/Junior Flute classes, and percussion instruments are provided for students enrolled in the Music Basics classes. Pupils are expected to provide their own recorders, keyboards, guitars and drumsticks with practice pad.

Pro-life group at Canterbury University

“Back in September 2008, a group of interested young people (mainly home educators) had a meeting about the possibility of setting up a pro-life group in the University of Canterbury. We decided at that meeting that this was definitely something we wanted to pursue. University campuses are one of the best places to spread the pro-life message as there are thousands of young people at each campus, and the majority of women who have abortions are at campuses. Unfortunately, this is an opportunity that is not being used: there are no known pro-life groups in any campus in New Zealand at the moment, however we are hoping that our new group will be the first in a network of campus groups all over New Zealand.

Here’s a description of our new group:
We want to be a hub at the University of Canterbury for students who are pro-life, that is, valuing the preciousness of a baby’s life before birth. Also, we wish to help pregnant mothers by pointing them towards useful, caring counseling services. As well as having regular club meetings during term-time, we plan to run public forums and seminars at which we would present our views and welcome input. We believe this is a very relevant issue in today’s society and would like to help co-students understand better what abortion is.

– Lillian Hoyt, pro-life UC President

We have a site booked for each of the clubs days, running from the 23-25th February, where we will (Lord willing) have a stall, hand out brochures, talk with people about pro-life issues, and give away little hands gingerbread biscuits. :) If you’d like to get involved with our group or become a member, we’d love to hear from you – contact us at: prolifenz@gmail.com , or come along to the clubs days and have a chat to us there. If you’d like more information with what’s happening in New Zealand in regard to abortion, or you’d like to donate to the cause, look us up on http://www.prolife.org.nz where we have news updates, videos and links to other pro-life groups.  Please pray that there will be a lot of support for this group and its activities

See you there!

MOTAT

Recently I have met several home educating parents as they came through MOTAT with their children. So went to your website to see if what we have and do in the library might be of use to your home educators.
We have a MOTAT annual passholder homework club (for young onsite visitors) but are availabe via our website and the general Library email (library at motat.org.nz) to assist anyone with research and information needs with a transport and technology theme. We have a member of staff specifically employed to assist in making our archival, photographic, magazine and book collections accessible to all. We have a book collection specifically for school age children as well which can be used for reference.
I hope you will pass on this information to your members or use it on your website.
Thank you, kind regards
Megan Wishart and the rest of the library team.
