Christian Homeschoolers Family Summer Getaway

Picture

This is a reminder that the Getaway is in the not too distant future so now is the time to be booking it in on your calendar and booking your space at camp.  Remember, you can camp for extra days if you want to.  Some of our regular families spend a few extra days in camp enjoying an extended holiday time.

We had our biggest camp so far last Feb, so past the word around, share the love, and invite some more to join us in Feb 2016.  Below is the brochure with all the details on it.

The Drinnan Clan

Taupo

what’s happening …

The annual Christian Homeschoolers Family Summer Getaway is for Christian homeschooling families to connect with other families for mutual encouragement and friendship. It aims to be …

like-minded

There’s nothing more encouraging than knowing we are not alone in this awesome task of discipling our children at home. Meeting with others who are going through the same triumphs and struggles can lift a tired soul! And how important it is, for our children to have like-minded friends.

family-centred

This is a getaway for the whole family. Enjoy a weekend away or extend your time at the campsite and have a family holiday as well. This is not a camp/conference in the traditional sense, it is families relaxing together.

budget-conscious

Raising a family on a single income is no easy task but God is faithful. So being mindful of this, we have chosen to go to a conventional campsite. There are limited cabins available also. We will let you organise your own family’s food which is much cheaper than paying someone else to cook it and you can meet your own budget requirements.

fun-filled

We have a programme of fun games and activities for the young and not so young, and of course, we are camped right on the shores of beautiful Lake Taupo for swimming, boating, etc! We have a hall on site for fellowship, Sunday morning devotional, or in case it rains.

Trevlyn was born in Zimbabwe, grew up in South Africa and immigrated to Sydney, Australia, in 1999 where he met his wife, Susannah. They are home educating their five children on a 7.5 acre property in beautiful Allens Rivulet (Tasmania), where they hobby farm a flock of close to 30 sheep, 14 chooks, 2 cats, a dog and a horse.
Trevlyn has served as an elder in the Presbyterian Church of Australia, preached at various churches in the Hobart area and organised practical theology conferences. He is the founder of Reformed Resources (http://www.reformedresources.com.au/), an Australian ministry that encourages Christians to apply Scripture to all of life. Trevlyn has written extensively about how to apply God’s Word to life. He is also a founder of The Gospel Agenda (www.thegospelagenda.com.au), a local Tasmanian ministry that promotes the application of the gospel to the family, church and state. As Trevlyn is passionate about how the gospel (and the entire Word of God) is applied to every square inch of life and limits civil government to its sphere of sovereignty, he stood for the Family First Party in the Australian Federal electoral seat of Denison in 2013 (http://www.mypolitician.com.au/federal/candidate/trevlyn-mccallumTrevlyn has worked in managerial positions within some of Australia’s largest financial services companies. He currently works as a financial adviser for a local Hobart small business. Trevlyn has completed financial planning studies and a postgraduate degree ininternational business. He has studied practical theology; in particular Biblical economics, family worship, apologetics, politics and the Bible, ethics/morality and history.
Trevlyn and Susannah are passionate about applying God’s Word to all of life and are trying to build a multi generational vision of faithfulness for their children and grandchildren.
Trevlyn is available to speak at meetings or Church services in Auckland and Hamilton. Please refer to the link above if you are interested in having Trevlyn speak at a meeting or Church service in your area – either a meeting already planned or set up a meeting specially for Trevlyn.

Home Schooling New Zealand Meetings, Aug 10 – Nov 6 2015

A message from Cynthia Hancox and dates for some meetings coming up soon:

Just for everyone’s info – meetings happening throughout the North Island and top of the South over the next few weeks. This is a great chance to find out more about Home Schooling NZ, ACE if you like, but also more options for high school. HSNZ offer excellent support, and the option to get an official record of learning which can help our kids gain access to further training etc. Contact details and dates below.

The Principal of Home Schooling New Zealand, Todd Roughton, is travelling to various parts of the country to meet and talk with any interested homeschooling families.

While Home Schooling New Zealand is accredited to administrate ACE Certificates in New Zealand, as a charitable Christian trust dedicated to assisting the Christian community in the area of homeschooling, its interests are much broader than just ACE. HSNZ families use a wide variety of curricula, and Todd’s job includes assisting families to find the pathway that best meets the needs of their individual children.

The purpose of the visit is to help, support and encourage homeschooling families, as well as to answer any queries. This may be of particular interest to those with questions about homeschooling options at secondary level for their growing children.

Todd’s background includes teaching in New Zealand state primary, intermediate and secondary schools, three years ESOL teaching in Europe, nine years in New Zealand Christian schools (including four as principal), nine years working for the Tertiary Education Commission as a Literacy/Numeracy specialist, and a decade as a private educational consultant and producer of curriculum materials. He and Riety (a secondary school language teacher) have successfully homeschooled their own four children, and for the last four years they have run the Whangarei-based HSNZ office.
