Free Woodcock Johnson III IQ tests for children aged 7 – 14

The following may be of some interest for those in the Manawatu area:

Andrew Salisbury, a trainee Educational Psychologist, is offering free Woodcock Johnson III IQ tests for children aged 7 – 14.  The Woodcock Johnson III test returns a description of the general cognitive ability of a person based on age.  Andrew is able to administer the test for free as part of his study, but the test results are not considered to be official as he is not yet fully qualified.

The test is useful for guiding your planning and teaching technique to better meet the strengths and weaknesses your child might have.

If you live within a half hour drive of Palmerston North, Andrew is willing to come to you to administer the test.  This opportunity is only available for the next two weeks.  For further information you can email to lsl@clear.net.nz or call on 021 2674190.

Home Education Awareness Week 31 October – 5 November 2011

Home Education Awareness Week (HEAW) is later this year because the fourth term begins later – October 25. We have traditionally held HEAW in the first or second week of the fourth term, trying to miss Labour weekend. So this year the Home Education Awareness Week is 31 October through to 5 November 2011

Home Educators all over the country use this as an opportunity to do something special to raise their profile locally and develop a bit of positive public relations. This helps in gaining the movement a bit more credibility, especially when applying for grants or discounts with resource suppliers, or for admission to tertiary institutions or gaining help and advice from schools and perhaps even the use of some of their resources. And of course the benefits would be examined by more people, thereby bringing more people into the home schooling movement and your local support group.

For more information on HEAW go to: http://hef.org.nz/2007/home-education-awareness-week/

Craig and Barbara Smith are available to speak at any activities/meetings/conferences/workshops you may be organising for this.

CIE Private Candidate Process for 2012 onwards

An email from Erena and Judith

be sure to read the link to the

ACSNZ Proposal from 2012 for the Private Candidate Process

Hi Barbara

ACSNZ Proposal from 2012 is a file supplied by the Association of Cambridge Schools NZ (ACSNZ) which outlines the process for all Private Candidates sitting Cambridge Exams in 2012 and beyond. Feel free to put it on your website and anywhere else you think it needs to go.

It covers:

  • Background of the system as it has been in the past and the need for change
  • The areas where CIE exams can be sat
  • Subjects available to PCs with all the relevant paper codes for all three levels i.e. IGCSE, AS and A levels
  • The physical process involved in applying for, paying for and sitting exams
  • Rules of conduct

This information can now be circulated around to anyone you know who is planning on studying for Cambridge Exams over the next few years.

Thanks to Janine from the ACSNZ for all her work on this document and for listening to feedback from Home Educators. We are confident that this is a good standardised solution which covers a broad range of subjects and should ensure total, permanent and nationwide access to Cambridge Exams for home eduators.

Best regards,

Erena & Judith
