Homeschoolers History Fair – “Snapshots”-23 September 2008

http://www.ahe.org.nz/ahenews/AHE-Annual%20History%20Exhibition%202008.pdf

Come along to the 3rd Annual Auckland Home Educators’ History Exhibition
Brought to you in association with Auckland Home Educators Inc

“SNAPSHOTS”
People and Places Throughout the Ages
Tuesday 23 September 2008, 10.30am – 1.30pm
Mt Albert War Memorial Hall (beside Rocket Park)
Cnr Wairere Avenue/New North Road, Mt Albert

Registrations are going well for this popular event so you’ll need to BOOK
NOW to secure a place/s – numbers are limited by venue size. No late or
on-the-day entries will be accepted so do avoid disappointing your family!

I encourage you to consider participating or going along to have a look, not
forgetting the chance to mix ‘n mingle with families you might not
ordinarily see. Great for children to plan, research, collate and present
their efforts, culminating in a chance to share their findings and passions
within a warm, supportive and appreciative environment. Even just
practising how to walk up on stage and receive a certificate all goes
towards self development. Last year was a lovely atmosphere and the beams
on the kids’ faces were priceless!

IMPORTANT: Organisers, especially Katie Richards who has coordinated this
event, work hard to bring about opportunities like this. Please do your bit
to:

a) meet the registration and payment deadline of 5 September. (Payments
have to be matched up and sending out reminders is time consuming.)

b) follow instructions. (Carefully read the material on the initial notice
before asking further questions.)

c) advise as early as possible if you’ve registered but find you can’t
manage it. (Space for around 60 projects has to be allocated, set up and
numbered. No-shows mean last-minute gaps have to be filled and someone may
have missed out if fully booked.)

Have fun learning!

  1. hi my name is joyce prescott i want to know more about homeschooling. My nesie she is 14 years of age and has no school to go to. And would love to join in this homeschool

  2. Gidday Joyce,

Home schooling is the option when you pull your child out of the school system and teach her yourself at home.

The first thing to do is contact the Ministry of Education and ask them for an “Exemption Application” to home school. You will find the phone number of the Ministry of Education in the front of the phone book, in the blue Government pages under “E” for education.

Then it is a good idea to contact a local home schooling support group. They are all over NZ. If you’d like to do that, let me know what town you’re in and I’ll try to give you a home schooling contact nearby.
