SUBMISSION:

I/We OPPOSE Social Security (Benefit Categories and Work Focus) Amendment Bill

Reasons:

We find the proposals in this bill, most particularly forced ECE and immunization of benefits recipients, an absolutely shocking abuse of human rights.

How dare this government make beneficiaries second class citizens by revoking their rights to determine what is best for their children. There is an enormous body or research that would lead one to question the benefits of ECE and the benefits of immunization. Even if there wasn’t, how dare this government even assume to tell parents that they don’t have the right to make such decisions for their children.

We are not a family that receives benefits, and God willing, we never will be: however, we truly cannot fathom how a country with a reputation such as New Zealand’s (for justice and a high standard of living) could even contemplate passing such a fascist bit of legislation.

We are Canadian citizens, New Zealand permanent residents, and this is the kind of legislation that will see us returning to Canada – a country that (we hope and pray) would at least never sink to such a low standard.

Please do the right thing and don’t sully New Zealand’s reputation: vote down this bill.

Regards,
