A reminder from Erena and Judith:

Hi all

Just another reminder for those wishing to sit Cambridge Exams in the November session this year that registrations close on the 31st May, 2012. Payment must be paid in full by the 22nd June, 2012.

For general information about the Private Candidate system for this year visit: http://www.acsnz.org.nz/privatecandidates.cfm
Please forward this message through your local groups and to anyone you know who is planning on sitting Cambridge Exams this year.

If you have any questions please contact either of us by emailing enquiries@cambridgeexamsolutions.co.nz .

Cambridge Exams for Home Educators (Private Candidates)

Here is an email from Erena about the Cambridge Exams for Home Educators

Hi all

Just a note to advise that Janine from the Association for Cambridge Schools NZ is going to be away from the office for the period of 19 April to 28 May. Consequently, it would be appreciated it if as many Private Candidates as possible would register online before 19 April. To register online, go to http://www.acsnz.org.nz/privatecandidates.cfm and follow the instructions.

There will be someone on hand to take registrations while Janine is away but this would greatly reduce her workload and also Janine’s last minute rush on her return.

Payments will still be invoiced at the usual time – it’s just the actual processing of the registration that is affected.

There is no need to feel obligated if you are on holiday or still unsure about your choices but if you are sure, it would help Janine a great deal if you were able to do so.

Please note that, in accordance with the new nationwide system which has been set up and is now administered by the ACSNZ, schools will not be accepting any registrations  for Private Candidates. All registrations must be done online.

Some people may not be aware… but schools are NOT to be contacted regarding any aspect of Cambridge Exams. A lot of work has been done over the last 18 months to open up the Cambridge system to home educators and anyone who contacts local schools trying to bypass this system could jeopardise all the work that has been done.

For general enquiries relating to the Cambridge system as it relates to Private Candidates or homeschooling with Cambridge, email enquiries@cambridgeexamsolutions.co.nz . For specific enquiries relating to your 2012 registration which have not already been addressed on the ACSNZ website, contact acsnz@ags.school.nz .

Please forward this message through your local groups and to anyone you know who is planning on sitting Cambridge Exams this year.

Thanks,

Erena & Judith

Homeschool reading/writing for boys

A note from Joe Novara

I’ve dedicated a free blog site to reading and writing for homeschooled boys. A published author currently teaching college writing, I believe it’s necessary, at times, to go around a fixed curriculum in order to discover the way back in for some reader/writers. It may take a variety of exercises and drills to tweak a boy’s interest in word play. You know your student(s) better than anyone else. I invite you to sort through the range of writing prompts and study guides I offer to find the perfect fit for your son or daughter and to pass this site on to others in your organization.

NZ Outdoor Instructors Association

And email from Natalie Mathews of the NZ Outdoor Instructors Association. If you are interested in her offer then please email me, barbara@hef.org.nz, then I will email you her email address.

Hi,

Natalie here from the NZ Outdoor Instructors Association.

I am trying to develop contacts in the North Island for NZ homeschoolers.
We run assessments in various pursuits – including kayaking, bushcraft, rock climbing  and caving. As part of these assessment we require ‘model students’ so that our assesses can be assessed on their teaching ability in a certain pursuit. This is a great opportunity for people to receive a day of instructions at little or no cost.

We currently work with the Canterbury Home Educators Network and have had a very positive response from those students who have taken part in these activities.

We have a rock climbing assessment coming up on the 4th March in Kinloch, and we’re looking for approximately 16 students aged 13+ to take part. Do you have a contact for the Taupo Homeschoolers in particular?

I’d appreciate any contacts in the North Island that you think could be interested in these opportunities.

Kind regards,
Natalie Mathews
Executive Assistant
